“The Right Hand of Doom” PART 3

Ok first off I don't have a lot of pictures for this last page, I got on a roll one day and my camera
was no where to be found, So I will try and explain the best I can.

After I put on the fingers, I added foam to the front and back of the palm, (see pics below).
Using a sheet of red "Fun Foam" (very thin but flexible) I sealed off the fingers and
thumb (hot glued and trimmed.)

Sorry I have no pics of the arm carved out before painting was started. I used a hobby tool to cut out the
grooves, I have added painted pics so you can see my patterns

Here's a pic of the hobby tool bit I used to carve out the foam (high speed cutting bit)

After carving out the foam it was time to paint. I had no normal latex around
but found some latex rubber mold maker (thicker latex) .

I added some red acrylic paint, just enough to change the color.
It gets redder as it cures

Coat some liquid detergent soap (dish soap) on your paint brush first before dipping in latex
if you ever want to use it again after latexing. Don't get on your cloths (won't come off), contains ammonia.
So have good ventilation, and watch your eyes.

Brush on one coat at a time (I let it stand over night before applying the second coat). I used two coats
because I needed to save some latex for the tail... I would suggest 4 coats if possible.

You can use a hair dryer to speed up the drying if you have no patience (like me).

This is what your first coat should look like, semi transparent.

Then get out the baby powder and dust it on/over the dried latex, this keeps it from sticking to itself (finger pieces),
plus makes it easier to see where you have not painted when your add your second coat. Make sure you dust between fingers and where they bend and touch each other.
Note: Watch you don't get latex on your moving parts like string .

After second coat is applied and dried, I applied a thin coat of red paint over the whole thing, I used this Krylon
Fusion Plastic Paint. most oil based (solvent) paints will stay sticky on rubber after applied, this paint dried well..
You can dust the arm again if you want to take down the shine (I left the shine).

Then Ta -Da your done, just watch sharp edges and abrasive things when wearing the arm,
the rubber will come off if dug into. Adding more layers of latex makes the arm more durable.
