“The Right Hand of Doom” Part two:

PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS PART2 BEFORE DOING EVERTHING IN ORDER, AS I STATED
IN PART ONE, I CHANGE THINGS AS I GO, I'M JUST POSTING THIS INFO FOR OTHERS TO GET IDEAS.
In this part I change my design a few times, but what didn't work
for me does not mean it will not work for the person reading this.

I added a piece of aluminum pipe (taken from a arrow shaft ) for wrist motion back and forth and as a grab handle

to hold on to the arm so I don't drop it (I took this out on mine on final design because of space issues)

Started out drawing out the hand template shape, again just sketched it nothing measured.

( I ended up making it too big in the palm but managed to cut down the width later )

I Traced the pattern onto a piece of 1/4 inch Sintra board, heated it and cut it out while the board was still soft wear gloves

used a heat gun, or you can use an oven (like cooking a pizza but not so high a temp) I hear some use boiling water as well

Reheat and bend it out

The thumb being bent

Finished palm (endoskeleton )

I added long ends on it and drilled holes to slide the arrow shaft through it, for support

Attaching the extensions, I used a type of screw rivet, had them forever, don't know where to buy more.

Just use screws and nuts to fasten the rest of the parts to the palm.

Finished extensions with arrow shaft inserted

A close up

Attached to the arm.

Pulled out the shaft and detached palm, so I could work on the fingers. I bought a tupper wear type bowl and cut it into strips

get a flexible thin type plastic for the fingers. (shows the thumb attached and string holes drilled)

Fingers going on , I show two layers of finger plastic in the pictures, I ended up taking one layer off because it was too stiff to bend

Another view

Fingers are Ducted taped , so I could hot glue. Most oily plastics (shiny) won't let hot glue stick to it , the tape helps

Reattached the palm for fit and changes

Close-ups of the fingers

The finger backs were hot glued over the eye hook shafts, then some of the eye hook shaft cut off to allow for the foam to be glued on.

I changed my design again, made it smaller, I cut off most of the bend in the palm

Also changed my attachment, I added a plastic sintra collar inside the arm, for added support for when the fingers are bent

I ended up pulling out the arrow shaft and just gluing the two pieces (wrist and hand assembly) with special Sintra glue and more rivets.

This was my final design below

I cut off the black part of the foam for the back pieces, then cut out a channel for the string and
eye hooks to move.

A "foam test" for looks and bendability

More testing with string and eye hooks.

One finger done with string hanging, I ended up taking off all the foam and putting in all the eye hooks

for the strings first, then added the foam back .

Almost done just need some rock texture.... go to: page 3
